    Ujjayi Pranayama aims to control and still the fluctuations in the mind. Prana means life energy. Yama means control. The practice of pranayama seeks to bring the mind into the present moment. Research indicate several psychological benefits of Pranayama practice, including improved emotional responses, fatigue, stress for all, and reduced anxiety in cancer patients, as well as in patients with cardiovascular disease.

    In short, the inverted postures with practice bring about good health and wellbeing, from the inside out. Head balance primarily affects the brain and helps to develop a vigorous body, a strong spine and a disciplined mind. Shoulderstand offers some of the same benefits but gives more of a feeling of peace.

    In addition to the reproductive effects, inversions also benefit the endocrine, lymphatic, circulatory, digestive, respiratory, urinary, excretory, and central nervous systems. The pituitary, pineal, thyroid, and adrenal glands receive a proper blood supply.
